Fado – music from under your skin and depths of your soul

The Portuguese folk music Fado, “the Portuguese blues”, is based on soulful singing usually accompanied by guitars.Due to the soulful and melancholic nature, Fado has often been compared also to Argentinean tango and Spanish flamenco.Fado always speaks about deep emotions:passion, jealousy, longing and pain or happiness and ecstasy.

Born in the 19th century Lisbon, Fado remained in the taverns, bordellos and street corners for a long time before moving into Fado houses and finally to the large stages. The world’s oldest urban music will be heard daily in the Wine Village, interpreted by a genuine Portuguese Fado group, Trio de Joao.
