Jigzag
Jigzag, from Sydney, enjoys favour at Australia's pop and folk-music festivals. The group's energetic performances have delighted audiences on its tours of Canada, Denmark, and England, too.

The music of Jigzag - consisting of Gregg Bryce (guitar and vocals), Caroline Trengove (violin and vocals) and Elisabeth Frencham (bass and vocals) - brings together folk, pop, Celtic music, jazz and country. The group's trademark three-part harmonies fit right in with its intense, spontaneous style of live performance.

Junior
Junior, from Adelaide in South Australia, got its start playing covers of songs by popular Aussie bands such as Crowded House, Midnight Oil and Hoodoo Gurus. The band soon began producing its own material, however, in the spirit of its models, and has put out two albums of melodic, dynamic pop.

The group, which has made the rounds of Australia's pubs and festivals indefatigably, launched its international career in 2003 with a big six-week tour of the United States. The tour culminated in an appearance at Australia Day festivities in New York.

Steve Pedersen (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Pete Arthur (guitar, vocals) and Justin Slater (vocals, harmonica, percussion) form the group's core trio. They will appear at the Wine Festival reinforced by a drummer and a bassist, however.

The Wongawilli Band
The Wongawilli Band is one of Australia's best-known folk ensembles. Together for 20 years, the group has also made a name for itself on its extensive tours of Europe and China. This year the group's tour will take it to Denmark as well as Finland.

With roots in Illawara, near Sydney, Wongawilli presents a traditional Australian bush music that has absorbed influences from the folk music of the British Isles and eastern Europe. Irish and Scottish rhythms coexist in perfect harmony with mazurkas and polkas. The group's instrumentation includes  violins, harmonica and bodhran, among other things.

The Wongawilli Band will arrive in Kuopio with a make-up consisting of Graeme Murray (vocals, percussion), Jane Brownlee (violin, vocals), Tania De Santi (piano), David De Santi (harmonica, vocals) and Samuel De Santi (bodhran, violin).

The group's leader, David De Santi, is also the editor-in-chief of the Australian folk-music magazine Trad & Now and the director of the major Illawara Folk Festival.

Robin DeWan
Robin DeWan, who lives in Finland, got his introduction to the mysteries of the didgeridoo at the beginning of the 1990s. He has appeared in Finland both alone and with various ensembles, and also teaches this traditional instrument of the Aborigines. He has also published a book on playing the didgeridoo, and on its healing influences.Among his many performances we note his collaboration with the group Aikakone on its album Maa and his appearance with the group Angelit at Finlandia Hall in 2001, and at the House of Culture's Live8 concert in 2005.
